Yosemite National Park and Mono Lake
September 17th

California vacation

Traveling has always been a favorite activity of mine. Today at one point a Black Bear crossed the road in front of us, At another a Clarke's Nutcracker made its presence known as it flew overhead. Other times the scenery was completely breathtaking...

Yosemite was all it is billed to be .
The September traffic was busy but bearable. We found plenty of  solitude off the beaten trail.

El Capitan was a sight shrouded in the early morning smoke of a nearby controlled fire in the Park

Golden Hairstreak was a life species for me. Several were seen in a small patch of scrub in an old burn off route 120, just outside the Park border.

Mono Lake Tufa South was an interesting place to bird. Sage Sparrow, Sage Thrasher, and  Brewers Sparrow were among the avian highlights. The Tufa formations caused by submerged calcium deposits were neat.

I 'll need a little more time to correctly ID this white butterfly. It was very accommodating.
