Thanks to everyone who turned in their Moose survey cards

This Bull Moose is one of several with GPS Collars part of the Moose study by the USGS Cooperative Wildlife Unit at UMass, Mass Wildlife and DCR Biologists. The Moose Survey cards turned in by this years hunters will be analyzed by the Scientists to help us all better understand the Quabbin Moose herd.

Young Moose have been a part of the Quabbin Landscape for may years now. This mother and calf were photographed July 20, 2004 Near Gate 39 (©DHSmall). The young Moose (below) was joined a few minutes later by a sibling. Twin Moose sightings are reported often in mid summer.

Pictures taken on Rattlesnake Hill.  New Salem Zone on 11/ 27/ 05 by Doug Hancock. The cryptic animals make it easy to understand why so many folks pass by without seeing these magnificent beasts

Hi Dave, I saw 3 Moose on Prescott. couldn't get a picture of one and the small Bull calf did not come out to well. Big Cow taken at about 25 yrds. She smelled an approaching hunter approx. 3 mins before I saw him come up the hill over 175yrds away. He never knew she was there. The Calf drank from a brook 3 times before he'd had enough, quite entertaining. Didn't get a deer but my buddies kid shot his first buck, 4pt 103 lbs. Another great time at the hunt. Thanks to everyone that makes this such a quality experience. Bill Moran, Holyoke, MA
